Road Trip to Joplin-May 21, 2012

Ah…road trips…I love them.  The Jammers made their way to Joplin this week for their match against the High Strung.  The Jammers are so cool, even President Obama was in town to see them.  Well… okay, maybe he wasn’t in town for that reason, but hey, if he knew how extraordinary the Jammers are, I’m sure he would have made a detour and come to see us play.  Anything is possible I say…yes, the Jammers are that awesome!  How could they be anything less when I’m in charge? J

Even on the road, the Jammers were victorious.  In spite of the soccer fans that are playing on the field behind them, the Jammers managed to stay focus and come out with a win as a team.

Teresa Emerson tried her hardest to ignore the distractions around her.  There were times, I’m sure she was ready to strangle the captain of the soccer team.  She stayed calm and beat her opponent (who looks like a child, as what TE refer her as) Julie Ingle, in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

Kayla Ratliff was also victorious in her match.  She won her match in straight sets with the scores of 6-2, 6-4 over Christi Higdon.
Our doubles team of Carol Rollins and Beth Wilson were having a hard time for the evening.  They were struggling in the first set against their opponents, Tammy Hunter and Beth Sellers.  They lost in the first set 2-6.  They knew they had to make some changes in the second set to stay in the match.  They tried everything they could think of, but it was too late, they fail short and lost the second set as well with the score of 4-6.

Heidi Smith and Kelly Kramer were a little disappointed with themselves over how they played over the weekend in a fund raiser tournament so they were ready to play against the High Strung team.  Indeed they were, they dominant their opponents, Mary Kirkpatrick and Kim Higdon, in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

Our dynamic duo, on and off the court, our doctors team of Hee-Sun Kim and Margaret Taylor strike again.  They also won their match in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 against Karen Talbot and Stacey Iorio.    It’s that Asian Caucasian persuasion that they have going on!

Three matches down and 6 more to go.  Next week is Memorial Day; the Jammers will not be playing, they will have a week off.  Some of them will be traveling to Bentonville, AR  June 1 – 3 to play in the Spam Slam Tournament.  Good luck to those Jammers!

The Jammers team next match will be June 4th against the Slice Girls once again, so wish them luck.

Until next time.

Another Win

The second match for the Jammers went pretty smooth on May 14th.  Hee-Sun Kim and Nancy Winters at singles.  Hee-Sun won over her opponent, Gerri Mach, with the scores of 6-1, 6-2.  Our little princess, Nancy, was also victorious, an easy win over Michelle Rust with the scores of 6-0, 6-0.

Our doubles team of Beth Wilson and Suzanne Lennard had a tougher time.  They had an easy first set over their opponents, Linda Donnelson and Nancy Skinner, with the score of 6-1.  The second set wasn’t so easy; they were falling behind, and lost the set with the score of  3-6.  In the 3rd set tie-break.  It was point by point, and it could have gone either way.  But the luck was not in our favor that evening, Beth and Suzanne lost with the score of 11-13.

Carol Rollins and Margaret Taylor had a tough match but hung in there and come out victorious.  They lost in the first set to their opponents, Tijuana Julian and Maggie Smith, 5-7.  Come back and win the second set at 6-4.  For the 3rd set tie-break, I guess they listened to their captain and remembered that ‘we do not lose in a tie-breaker’.  They dominant over their opponents with the score of 10-1.

The doubles team of Heidi Smith and Julie Trout cruise through their match.  It was an easy first set for them.  They didn’t lose a game over their opponents, Leah Clark and Lori Robinson, first set 6-0.  On the second set, Heidi lost her focus a bit and was waving ‘hi’ to people as they come by.  Thanks to her partner, Julie, who reminded her to stay focus, they won the second set 6-3.

Two weeks and two win down for the Jammers.  Next week, they will travel to Joplin as they count down the chance to be at Sectionals one more time.

First Match

Well it’s that time of the season again.  The USTA League has begun this week.  The Jammers played their first match this last Monday, May 7th.  It was a very tight match for them.  We came out victorious, but it wasn’t an easy win for the Jammers.  Our singles players had an easy match with Teresa Emerson winning her match against Lesley Skinner with 6-3, 6-2.  Kayla Ratliff winning her match over Yvonne Bussmann by the scores of 6-1, 6-2.

Our doubles players had a tough time winning their matches.  We lost two of our doubles.  Beth Wilson & Nancy Winters battled it out against their opponents, Erin McAninch and Julie Warren, and won the first set 6-2, but lost in the second 2-6.  They fought hard in the third set tie-break, but lost with a score of 10-12.

Heidi Smith & Karen Griffin played well but were not able to pull out a win; they lost to Peggy Lindsey & Susy Barr with the scores of 6-3, 7-6.

The doubles team of Kelly Kramer & Lisa Powell was our only hope for the evening.  A win from them would mean a win for the team.  They lost in the first set 4-6.  They came back and won the second  set in a tie-break 7-6.  So it was down to the 3rd set tie-break.  And they did it; they stayed focus and fought hard.  They won with the score of 12-10.

What a way to start out the season.  One down and 8 more matches to go.  Hopefully the rest of our matches will not be as close as this one.  The Jammers has made their captain very proud! J

Welcome

Welcome to Jamming with the Jammers…

You might wonder why I started this blog and to tell the truth, I’m not quite sure.  I just thought I would document the Jammers matches so that we will be able to one day look back and reflect on these moments and to realize how extraordinary we the Jammers really are.  By having this blog, hopefully we can look back and remember some fun times, old stories, new stories to share, about great moments about the matches we played, or not so much great moments.  To question, to ponder, to learn, to grow, to record, to be…so let’s the blogging begin…
