Well it’s that time of the season again. The USTA League has begun this week. The Jammers played their first match this
last Monday, May 7th. It was
a very tight match for them. We came out
victorious, but it wasn’t an easy win for the Jammers. Our singles players had an easy match with
Teresa Emerson winning her match against Lesley Skinner with 6-3, 6-2. Kayla Ratliff winning her match over Yvonne
Bussmann by the scores of 6-1, 6-2.
Our doubles players had a tough time winning their
matches. We lost two of our
doubles. Beth Wilson & Nancy Winters
battled it out against their opponents, Erin McAninch and Julie Warren, and won
the first set 6-2, but lost in the second 2-6.
They fought hard in the third set tie-break, but lost with a score of
10-12.
Heidi Smith & Karen Griffin played well but were not
able to pull out a win; they lost to Peggy Lindsey & Susy Barr with the scores
of 6-3, 7-6.
The doubles team of Kelly Kramer & Lisa Powell was our
only hope for the evening. A win from
them would mean a win for the team. They
lost in the first set 4-6. They came
back and won the second set in a tie-break 7-6.
So it was down to the 3rd set tie-break. And they did it; they stayed focus and fought
hard. They won with the score of 12-10.
What a way to start out the season. One down and 8 more matches to go. Hopefully the rest of our matches will not be
as close as this one. The Jammers has
made their captain very proud! J
